The New Canadians Health Centre is currently recruiting a part-time Family Physician in Edmonton. Seeking coverage on Thursdays and one additional day per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday). We are also recruiting for maternity leave coverage Monday-Wednesday, May to October 2022.
The New Canadians Health Centre provides coordinated and multidisciplinary refugee-centered primary health care for a target population of government assisted and privately sponsored refugees as well as refugee claimants. Informed by refugees’ priorities that are communicated through culturally, medically, and epidemiologically appropriate assessments, the supports create ready access to a comprehensive set of primary care services.
We are a team of experienced family medicine physicians with expertise in refugee health, working side-by-side with nurses, health navigators, and settlement counsellors, to support healthy and productive new Canadians contributing to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of the city of Edmonton and the province of Alberta. We work closely with organizations in the settlement community, including Catholic Social Services (CSS), Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN), and the Multicultural Health Brokers (MCHB).
This physician of physicians will work 0.2-0.4 FTE with an equitable portion of on-call inclusive of weekends and statutory holidays. Remuneration is via a clinical Alternative Relationship Plan that has been negotiated with Alberta Health (Government of Alberta).
We are a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team of experienced family medicine physicians and specialists with expertise in refugee health, working side-by-side with nurses, mental health therapists, and settlement counsellors, aided by community support workers, cultural brokers, social workers, and cultural/language interpreters, to support healthy and productive new Canadians contributing to the social, cultural, and economic well-being of their communities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- MD, with a CCFP designation
- CPSA registration, in good standing
- CMPA coverage
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Experience with newcomer and refugee populations, tropical medicine training and additional language skills is an asset.
